Hi I believe we are family. William Lomax is my 5th great grandfather. Would you be able to chat. Not even sure that you will receive this being that it has been a while since you made this post.
Blessings,

Hi-
I was wondering how many of us had ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War? I have one, William Lomack, of NC who was apparently wounded more than once, taken prisoner and escaped to return to his company, and completed his term by serving 5 yrs. He rec'd a pension, and died at the ripe old age of 95. Has anyone tried and successfully gotten into the Daughters of the American Revolution or Sons of the American Revolution?
Also, I am curious if anyone here discovered family, (ancestry), connections with others posting on the boards? How many never knew that your ancestors were free prior to your search or were there rumors? I happened to get frustrated with those darn Slave Schedules and decided to look up a name that was on a family census not familiar to me. My being nosey has gotten me to this Revolutionary War soldier. One more question, have you linked up to other families who were also free persons of color? I have so far only the Eady family, and the Lomack/Lomax family. Members of the Lomack/Lomax families married persons from the Carter, Hammond, Simmons, Eady, Scott, Cannady, and Bell families to name a few. I am also related to the Pettiford family, but am still trying to trace that line...so far am getting no where with it. Anyway...just consider me curious...but this genealogical search has led me to apply to graduate school, (after being out of school for a number of years), to seek a degree in History. I figure, I may as well study something I love. Anyway, am looking forward to all responses.
Blessings!
