Catherine is my 3X maternal great grandmother.
I am looking for evidence of any African American FOSTER's who lived in Darke Co, OH or Randolph Co, IN at the FPOC settlements there. I realize Foster is not listed as being one of the big surnames for those settlements. The Foster's could be connected to the Collinses or the Basses.
My Foster Family, originated in MD, migrated to eastern PA, then lived in western OH, Vigo Co, IN, Woodstock, MI and Grundy Co, IL. They are my maternal ancestors. I do not know much-this is what I do know.
I have researched 2 brothers, Prior (1763, MD-1842, Stark Co, OH) and Robert (b1778, PA-?). Prior left a will naming his children, which was very helpful. I compared notes with a cousin who has done some research on this family. Apparently, it appears these two brothers and all of their male offspring, which was quite a few, all married Caucasian women. This family of brothers have been described as having quite dark complexions. (I have attached a news story describing this). They all named their children after one another so it is extremely challenging trying to identify the cousins. It appears at least in one case, 1st cousins married and had children.
I know these Foster families lived in Belmont, Stark, Holmes and Tuscarawas Counties in OH. I do not have any evidence of this Foster Family in either Darke County or Randolph County, IN, although one of Catherine's cousins was named "Dark Foster" (c1855, MI-Aft 1860, ?).
My highest MtDNA match, surname Collins, is from Darke Co, OH at least 5 generations back-both maternal and paternal.
