Wanted to post an update to this post as it may be helpful to others.

I have found a black history museum in the Chatham-Kent area of SE Ontario at the link below.

On their website they have a list of the surnames of the free persons of color who lived in the settlements in Ontario in the 19th century.

The museum focuses on the community and its importance in the Underground Railroad and some of the families who escaped slavery who came to the community. I have discovered there were also many FPOC who moved from the US to this area between 1840 and 1860 especially. I found that I have 3 lines of my own family who lived at one point in time in SE Ontario. One - the ENOS family is listed as having a record at this museum. Since I only live a couple hours away, I'm planning on visiting the museum to look through the records.
