My last name is also pronounced "Shavers" eventhough it's Chavers. I am from Walker, LA. The farthest ancestor I can find is Elijah "Elige" Chavers (1870-1944) from Tangipahoa Parish, who was married to Rosa Lee. I cannot find his parents. I read in some other forums that he was at least partially native american, maybe Cherokee, but I have no proof. Any information about him or Chavers' in Louisiana would be helpful.
