When I say "specificity", I mean, can they tell me something like:
According to their site, this is the type of results they will send you:
My main, personal focus is uncovering my African background with as much specificity as possible. With African-Ancestry, I can get the specific African ethnicities of all of those 7 lines above (and more) from samples from family members. DNA Tribe's website states the following:
"Your unique genetic profile will be compared to the following African populations. Sample sizes for each population are included in parentheses:
African (Cape Town, South Africa) (98); Angolan (100); Angolan (110); Berber (Asni, Morocco) (105); Berber (Bouhria, Morocco) (104); Benin (102); Egyptian (140); Egyptian (28); Equatorial Guinea (134); Guinea-Bissau (92); Hutu (Rwanda) (52); Kesra Berber (Central Tunisia) (44); Maghrebi (118); Mozabite (Algeria) (44); Mozambique (100); Mozambique (110); Nigerian (96); Saharawi (North Africa) (52); Sudanese (98); Tunisian (196); Tutsi (Rwanda) (114); Zriba Arab (Central Tunisia) (45)"
African Ancestry, Inc. has the largest African Lineage Database in the world, with over 25,000 African lineages. They mainly focus on the West and the West-Central areas of Africa, (incl. Mozambique and Madagascar, and a few other eastern nations) where the African ancestors of African-Americans hailed from. So, looks like to me, even if I can get an African identity for 7 out of my MANY lineages, it's a great 7 compared to not getting specifics on even 1 lineage.
