Absolutely! Yes, there are different reasons for having the DNA testing done. That's why it's so important for folks to understand exactly what the different tests are designed to accomplish. Also, it's important that folks NOT "read" anything into the results that are not there. Be clear on why you test, and what the results mean, not what you may want the results to mean. As useful as DNA testing is, it does not resolve all genealogical questions. As a matter of fact, it resolves very few of those questions.
With regard to the information on Pedigree Collapse In African's, I can only say that the information was quite "wordy", and of course, it applies to all peoples, so, I'm not clear on the point?!
If invested in actual genealogical research, the money that one would spend on a DNA test would render far more information about one's ancestors (under normal circumstances). So, be certain that the DNA test(s) that you get are going to actually supply you with the answers that you can't get any other way, and that you understand what the results actually mean. Otherwise, you may just be paying for an answer that doesn't exist.
