Re: Black Names In America:Orgins& Usage

from the Cleveland public library

online - Newbell Niles Puckett list

https://cplorg.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/p4014coll9/id/450/

-------------------------------------

I'm still doing research into them & I've always find the names so fascinating!

We had some very creative names from way back in our ancestry 8) .

I've made my way through most of the ola's
tacked onto the end of names in my own family tree. Some names came from
foreign origins, the names of places or nicknames from maritime history
& the parts of a ship, some names were French/Creole, Spanish, Jewish, Gullah or German, Huguenot & We also had quite a few names from Africa & Islamic references too back in the late 1700/1800s! ( mostly Ghana & Upper Guinea)
the Americanized versions of those names.
(in my old family tree)

I'm Glad so many were documented!!

Enjoy the partial linked list - how many
obscure ancestry names can You find
that were in Your Family Tree??

t.b. :)
