Re: Willing to do Lookups
In Response To: Willing to do Lookups ()
Candace,
In 1880 my ggmo. Helen Brockington was listed as the wife of Clements Dolphus in Darlington, South Carolina. Her parents were Phillip and Peggie (Margaret)Brockington. In the 1900 census the last names of Phillip and Frazella was Clemons. She had the children Phillip, and Frazella. On that census of 1880 their last name was Dolphus. They were living with the family of Aaron Dolphus .Also there was Willis Clements 17, and his mom Margaret Lee 52living there. Since people changed names so often, I was wondering what happened. In the 1900 census Helen was listed as the wife of William J. Clemons b. 1855 in S.C. I was wondering if my Uncle Sam Brockington's wife Martha and William Clemons mother was Margaret Lee? On Martha's death certificate, it said that her parents were Margaret Leo and Jerry Russell. I asked Martha's son Charlie Brockington if Martha and William J. were bros. and sis. He said no.Other family members said yes. My cousin told me that when Martha was in S.C. her husband a McIver or Mckeever stole her son out of the cottonfields . She went to Ark. and never saw her son until many years later when he came looking for her. Mc Keever told his son Jessie McKeever that his mother was dead.Jessie married a lady named Mandy and stayed with his mom until her death. It is a mystery that the name of Dolphus has never came up.I am wondering if the census taker made a mistake. But there were Dolphus's in the 1870 and 1880 census in Darlington. And also there were Dolphus's that migrated to Conway Co.,Ark. and to Fla. from S.c. Thanks, Della Smith
