Knights, still stuck :(

Greetings All,

Since I last posted here, I have made zero progress on my Knight family, the one with the exciting slave fugitive story. So I am going to take things one step at a time.

Thomas Knight allegedly escaped from Newton Knight's Plantation in Soso (Jones Co.), MS (however Newton Knight was not known to own slaves...but his uncles and grandfather did). Thomas ran, with his wife Cora, to North Carolina. They are in Edgecombe Co. NC in 1870 and 1880. Later I find them back in MS in 1910...ibut in Bolivar Co., very far from Soso, MS.

So my primary goal is to find out more about Thomas and Cora. I have no records for them at all, just records of thier daughter Abbie Knight (Soc Sec App and death cert.)...which have scant information.

Thomas Knight was certainly alive in 1910. He was head of household and the family members names match our known family info. It is possible that Cora was not alive (census enumerators must record the recently deceased plus their relation to the head of household). So chances are that there is some obtainable death record (cemetary tombstone, death cert.?) for Thomas Knight, the last Knight slave. No one in my family knows of any such record.

I cannot find Thomas/ Tom in the MS death index. I can't find Thomas or Cora Knight in 1920 or 1930. This is so frustrating. Can anyone give any advice on finding elusive ancestors ca. 1910?
