Woode-NC-Bill Of Sale-1852 While looking up deeds in the Ashe County, NC, Courthouse today, I found the following bill of sale, which is abstracted below: Slave sale - Ashe Co., NC 1852 Ashe County Deed Book R, page 298: ... for $505.00 payment in full for one Negro girl By the name of RINDA, Sold by virtue of an order of the County Court of Ashe County, North Carolina by the Administrator of the estate of James Woode Deceased. [RINDA is] age 18 or 19 years warranted to be sensible sound and healthy and a slave for life. 14 February 1852 signed Lather Woode; witnessed by Sol Long and Wm. B. Johnsan registered 23 Feb. 1854 NOTE: in the 1850 census, John R. Long was age 33; he had one slave (I don't know the sex and age of this slave); by 1860, the John R. Long family is in Alleghany County, which formed from Ashe in 1859. I hope that the above information will help someone.
