Baltimore, 1978 ========================================== p. 70 Dickinson Wash's Will, VA, 1857 (Abstract) Wash, Dickinson "I, Dickinson Wash of the County of Louise and State of Virigina do make the following my last will and testamont"... Gives to: sister Nancy Wash ..one slave wife..three slaves nephew Edward S. Wash - one slave nieces Sarah H. Spicer and Nancy S. Hall, one slave each William C. Stanley - a slave John D. Binns and William D. Binns a slave each "14th I give to John B. Smith in trust for the benefit of Mrs. Mary Binns a negro boy named Sam. It is my will that the said John B. Smith shall hold the said slave in trust for the benefit of the said Mary Binns during the lifetime of her husband Daniel K. Binns. I give to the said Mary Binns the right to dispose of said slave by will and if she shall survive her said husband I give the said slave to the said Mary Binns at his death, the said slave not in any manner to be liable for any debts which the said Daniel K. Binns may have contracted or may hereafter contract." As witness my hand and seal this 28th of April 1855" Dickinson Wash (seal Signed and acknowledged as his will in presence of James M. Vest, Charles Quarles, Jr., Charles H. Michie, M. Wm. Michie. (codicil) "In the 5th disposing clause of my foregoing will I have given unto my niece Sarah H. Spicer a negro woman named Fanny and in the 14th disposing clause of the said will I have given to John B. Smith a negro boy named Sam, son of Fanny. In this Codicil to my will I now declare it to be my will that my executor named in my will shall sell the said negores Fanny and Sam with the express provision that they are to be kept together and in this neighborhood for twenty-five years. .....Witness my hand and seal this 20th day of May 1856..
