TURNER-LA-1844 My great great grandfather James TURNER who was born in 1782 in Fairfax Co., VA, grew up in Lexington, Fayette Co., KY and migrated to West Feliciana Parish, LA in 1805. James was married to Anne Smith BOWMAN. Following the 1843 death of James Turner there was a probate sale which took place at his plantation, The Home Place, in West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. This was near the town of St. Francisville, LA. James TURNER West Feliciana Parish, LA Probate Sale July 30, 1844 Names/ages of Slaves mentioned are as follows: VIRGIL, aged 40 years, and his wife DICY, aged 35 years, and their 2 children AMY, age 9 years, and STEPHEN, 7 years. Also listed: HARRY/HENRY, 4 years, MARGARET, 7 years, POLLY, 55 years, and LOTTY, aged 90 years. POLLY, MARGARET, HENRY/HARRY and LOTTY were bought by Uriah Burr PHILLIPS, who married Evelina Theodisia TURNER, the daughter of James Turner. VIRGIL, DICEY, AMY and STEPHEN were bought by JOSEPH CARMENA. James Turner had previously bought them from the probate sale of JOSIAS GRAY. Please contact me with further questions.
