Tally-TX-1858 No. 102 -- Book F The State of Texas County of Refugio Know all men by these presents that we John Rl Tally and wife Elizabeth Talley of Goliad County in the state aforesaid, for and in consideration of the sum of Three Hundred Dollars to us in hand paid by Elizabeth Barber of Refugio, Refugio County, Texas, have granted, bargained, sold, conveyed, and delivered, and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell, convey and deliver unto the said Elizabeth Barber, wife of John A. Barber her heirs and assigns forever the Negro woman Maria, of copper complexion and about Thirty Three years of age. To Have and To Hold the said Negro girl Maria unto the said Elizabeth Barber her heirs and assigns forever and We do hereby bind ourselves our heirs executors or administrators to warrent and forever defend the title of the said Negro woman Maria unto the said Elizabeth Barber her heirs and assigns forever and We do moreover warrant that the said Negro Woman is a slave for life.
