Tuscaloosa County, Alabama Deed Book 2, p. 302

Know all men by these presents that we John H. OKelly and Jane OKelly his wife in the county and State aforesaid of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of two thousand and nine hundred and ninety three dollars lawful money of the United to me in hand paid at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents by James H. Robertson of said and state of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold and by these presents do grant and convey unto the said party of the second part his executors administrators and assigns the following property and slaves...
... one negro boy Bill dark complexion aged about twenty seven years,
... one negro girl Hannah aged thirty years and her child Clara aged four years,
... one negro girl Phillis aged twenty years and child Ben aged eight months,
... one bay horse about fourteen hands high,
... one brown bay mule about eleven hands high,
... one ward robe,
... one folding table,
... one hundred and fifty bushels of corn being the separate estates of said Jane OKelly,
To have and to hold the same unto the said party of the second part his executors administrators and assigns forever. And we do for ourselves our heirs, executors and administrators covenant and agree to and with the said party of the second part to warrant and defend the sale of the said goods and chattels and property hereby sold unto the said party of the second part, his executors administrators and assigns against all and every person and persons whomsoever. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this twelfth day of October one thousand eight hundred and fifty four.

The State of Alabama Tuscaloosa County
Personally appeared before me J E F Kirksey a Justice of the Peace in and for said county H. L. Wood and John McDaniel who known to me and after being duly sworn disposeth and saith they saw John H Okelly and Jane OKelly his wife sign seal and deliver the within conveyance the day and date therein mentioned and that they subscribed their names as witnesses to said conveyance.
Given under my hand and seal this the 12 day of October A D 1854.
