REID slave in SC

Reids at Bethiah Presbyterian

I recently got a copy of the church records of Bethiah Presbyterian Church from the Presbyterian Historical Dept. at Montreat NC. At the top of the first page of the records is recorded that Mrs. JS Reid w/o DR John S Reid asked if she might name this church.. she named it Bethiah (worshiper of Jehovah) .

The first paragraph says that the session book was burned in a house fire at the home of Andrew McClane..

In Sept 16 1849 preaching & the Lord's Supper was administered. 4 members added.. among them colored man Robert belonging to John S Reid..
