Phillips-SC-1768-Petition South Carolina Archive Records of 1768 Sarah Phillips, late of the Island of Jamaica, on behalf of her brother James Phillips and herself recently imported 6 negroes from the Island of Jamaica in the Brig CAROLINA SOCIETY, Clement Conyers, Master. 3 women, 1 boy and 2 children. These negroes were not brought in for sale, but for service to the Phillips who intend to reside in South Carolina. Public Treasurer had called on them to pay the duty usually required for negroes brought in for sale.
