Will of William Pegues, 3 May 1852, Marlboro Co., SC: 

... I also give & bequeath unto the said Maria Pegues,
Catherine E. Pegues & Emma William Pegues the following
named negroes viz.
Wisdom, Anika, Rebecca, Meshach, Sahdrack, Edmond, Juno,
Flora, Martha, & Nero.

... I give & bequeath to the children of my son, James
Pegues, deceased all the monies that may arise from the sale
of the two negroes Betty & Margaret as herein after
directed.

... It is my Will that my negro man Rent be set free as far
as it can be done consistent with the Laws of this State,
and I request my friend, the Rev. Wm. Jackson to act as his
guardian.

... It is my will that the two old negroes Baily & his wife
Sappho remain & be supported on the plantation devised
above.

... I enjoin upon my executors to sell the negro women Betty
& Margaret to the owners of their husbands if they will
purchase & if it be necessary to enduce them to purchase my
executors are authorized to sell said women below market
price of such negroes. I also request my executors in
selling any other of my negroes whose husbands or wife does
not belong to me that they have them find the owners of such
husbands or wives upon moderate terms. And further it is my
will that members of same family shall not be separated in
selling any of the negroes.
