Will of JAMES PATTERSON
Augusta Co VA 1793

"In the name of God, Amen. I James Patterson of the State of
Virginia and County of Augusta, being now far advanced in
years, but of perfect mind and memory ... hereby make this
my last will and testament in manner and form following, ...

... my two slaves PETER and ROSE I give and bequeath unto my
daughter Isbald Dickey to be for her and her heirs or
assigns forever, providing John Dickey find another slave
equal in value to Peter and him or her to be for my son
Joseph after he receives the forementioned PETER and ROSE,
and he the said Dickey is not to separate or part the said
PETER and ROSE as they are agreed to be man and wife ..."
Recorded 23rd July 1835.
