I William Patterson of the County of Lincoln and State of Tennessee, Being weak as to body but of sound memory ... Do make and ordain this my last will and testament. ... It is my will and bequeath that the balance of the property both real and personal shall remain in one joint stock until my eldest son now living arrives at the age of twenty one years of age which is John C. Patterson, or Maria H. Patterson marries or becomes of age at which time or times I bequeath all my property to be valued and divided equally between my beloved wife Rachel and each of the then surviving Heirs after which it is my request that all the balance of the lots set apart should again fall into one common stock and remain so until sone one of the Heirs should arrive of age or get married as before stated observing that when any of the female Heirs gets married they are intended to be allowed an equal part of the estate at that time except four hundred dollars, which is intended to be applied in a negro girl one horse bridle and saddle which negro girl that I intend and have given to her her lifetime and then to the heirs of her body forever ... I give and bequeath to my daughter Martha Eliza one negro girl named JUDEAN one horse bridle and saddle on the same condition that I allowed Maria Henderson Patterson as above stated they being the only two surviving daughters at this time. My sons John C. Patterson, William D. Patterson, David S. Patterson, James H. Patterson and Logan M. Patterson are to have equal shares of the estate with their Mother and to be at their disposal after they arrive at age or after the intermarriage of the widow. Should any of my children die before being married or arriving of age then the property to be equally divided among the living. ... Witness my hand and seal this 17th April 1833."
