Morton MS 1864 1857-1864 Excerpts from the will of Alexander B. Morton (signed A. B. Morton) February 7, 1857. This will probated Marshall County Mississippi March 18, 1864 and provided the following related to slaves: ... Item 2: I also bequeth unto my loving wife, Isabella Morton all my Negroes, of every age and description whatever to wit. A negro man named Joseph aged about thirty five, Isabella his wife aged about thirty years old, Ematine aged about 36, Serizu aged about fourteen, Manah aged about twelve years, Heanni aged about nine years, Robert aged about six years. The original document that I have is very difficult to read and there may be spelling errors in this document. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The information does not contain much information but may be helpful to your cause. The paper that I has are very fragile and some of the spelling in names may be incorrect, however, I have done the best I can in copying them to the attached document. One observation is that the will was written in 1857 and probated in 1864. The slaves mentioned probably had been freed and were no longer his property. I hope this helps you and with best wishes for your hunting. This document is from my spouses side of the family.
