MacCLENDON-NC-1702 HABELLA, a slave, in NC Dennis MacClendon was an overseer of "ye Highways from Suttens Crick to deepe Crick" (p. 562, Vol. I, Colonial Records by Saunders). He served on juries and was made a justice, a position he held at the time of his death. He proved rights to a hundred acres of land by the importation of two persons, namely, Michael Downing and HABELLA, a Negro. (Vol. I, p. 518 of Saunders Colonial Records).
