Martiau-VA-1657 Yourktown, VA, 1657 When I read your post in VA-ROOTS the following will which I abstracted many years ago came to mind: Nicolas MARTIAU left a will dated 1 Mar, 1656/7, recorded at Yourktown and proved 24 April 1657. He does not mention his wife, who appearently predeceased him but names his three married daughters and three sons-in-law; he mentions his grandchildren but not by name. He gave two of his slaves their freedom, Phill and Nicholas. He also gave them each a cow, three barrells of corn, some cloths and each a life estate in a certain plot of land where they could each build a house. His first born and only son, Nicholas, Jr. had died in childhood. The name of his 1st wife is unknown.
