LOVE & GEO LOVE, TN, 1826, Will Samuel Love Sr of Knox Co TN, in his will probated in 1826, said, "I also will that my negro man George be liberated by my executors from bondage"... Later court records show Joseph Love, executor of the estate, applied to the court to free George. In the 1840 Knox Co Tn census there is: Love, George, a Free Man of Color 1 male 36-55 1 female 24-36 Engaged in agriculture. Also in his will, Samuel had other slaves, but did not free them. ... One negro girl (Sal?) was willed to son Joseph for the use of one of the two daughters, Margaret or Rebeckah. ... Three negros named Hary, Anny and Mary were given to the widow Mary (Polly) Love.
