Baltimore, 1978 =================================== pp 76-77 Joel Jones' Will, VA, 1835 "In the name of God Amen, I Joel Jones of the Parish of St. Paul and County of Hanover , in State of Virginia bieng of sound disposing mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following.. ... Item. I lend unto my daughter Paulina America McLaurie during her life the following slaves and their increase, to wit, old Solomon, Nelson, Soimon, George, Andrew, Jack, William, Sealey, Charlotte, Nanc, Jacob, Isaac, Chancy, Sedwell, Armistead, and Marthat and at the death of my daughter Pauline Aamerica, I give and bequeath all the said slaves and their increase to her children and their heirs...But should my said Daughter Paulina America die leaving no lawful issue, upon that happening I then lend all the negores and their increase herein lent to her my daughter Maryan Simms Jones during her life and at her death I give and bequeath all the said negroes and their increase to her children and their heirs to be equally divided between them. ... I also give to unto my said son Washington (Jones), the following slaves and their increase, to wit James, Abraham, Henry, Benjamin, Joe, Claiborne, Archer, Caroline, Judith, Eliza, Fanny, Silvia, Milly, Sophia, Paulina, zion and Miles....but should my son Washington die leaving no lawful issue upon that happening, I do by this my will give and bequeath all the property herein given to him unto my son Albert Simms Jones and his heirs... ... I give and bequeath unto my son Albert Simms Jones and to his heirs....the following slaves and their increase, to wit - David, Caeser, Frank, John, Shadrack, Absolem, Garland, Emily ---Lucy, Maria, Oliver, Sucky, Rachael, Oliver, Sam, Iverson, Harriett, Maria, Jones and Mary, .....but should my said son Albert Simms die leaving no lawful issue upon that happening I do by this will give and bequeath all the property herein given to him unto my son Washington Jones and his heirs. ... I have hereunto put my hand and affixed my seal this 24th day of March in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine."
