Johnson-MS-1839-59 From a little known source book MISSISSIPPI COUNTY COURT RECORDS from the May Wilson McBee Papers (1958; 1967; 1994) comes the following: p. 64: Holmes Co. Deeds Book "F", p. 22: "Oct. 1839: WM. H. JOHNSON, of Holmes Co., to Silas McBee of Pontotoc Co. Whereas Wm. H. JOHNSON is indebted to the said Silas McBee for $2,000, the promisory note dated Jan. 19, 1839, payable Jan. 1, 1840 or before, the said note being given for a negro man named Sam, slave fore life, aged about 50, now said Wm. H. JOHNSON being desirous of securing to said Silas McBee the said sum of $2,000 gives deed of trust on said slave Sam to Silas McBee, until the amount of purchase and interest is paid. Signed Wm H. JOHNSON." p. 73: Holmes Co. Wills, Bk. 1, p. 195: "Will of CAROLINE C. JOHNSON, dated Dec. 14, 1848. Have given Silas and Joshua McBee 20 negroes apiece. The property to be divided between the four younger children. There may not be quite as much as the older children have gotten. Charles, Joseph and Isaac to live in home place with Margaret. Joshua McBee, executor. Wit: John McCampbell, Margaret Harbour, B. W. Treadwell. Prob.
