JOHNSON-MD-1778 Will GM-1-92 Thomas JOHNSON Frederick County, MD In the name of God Amen. I Thomas JOHNSON of Frederick County and State of Maryland being sick and weak of Body, but of sound and perfect mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and making void all other wills and testaments made by me heretofore, and do dispose of all my worldly estate in mannar and form as follows; that is to say ... Item I give and bequeath to my son John JOHNSON his heirs and assigns forever my dwelling Plantation with two hundred & twenty acres of land most conviently adjoining thereto, not interfering(?) with land hereinafter demised to my son Thomas JOHNSON. It being part of a tract of land called Flag Pond. Likewise five Negroes Viz. NANCY, TINY, YORK, CATE & LUCE, together with all my household furniture, plantation utinsills & stock, one silver tankard and sorrel horse colt excepted. ... Item I give & bequeath to my son Thomas JOHNSON his heirs and assigns forever; one hundred acres of land being part of the afforsaid tract of land called Flag Pond. Beginning at the end of ten perches on the tenth line of said tract of land and running thence north thirty four degrees east fifty two perches, then south sixtysix degrees east twelve perches to the end of a line of a tract of land called (Lashmutts's?) Folly, thence with said (Lashmutt's?) Folly south seventy one degrees east forty perches, then north sixty seven degrees east, thirty one perches, to the fourth line of a tract of land called Perry's Lott, then with it reversed south forty four degrees east seventy six perches to a line of Flag Pond, then with it south fifty nine degrees east thirty two perches, then south fifty one degrees east forty perches, then south twenty three degrees and three quarters of a degree west sixty two perches , then by a straight line to the beginning, containing one hundred acres of land more or less, as also one Negro girl called HANNAH with all her increase, one silver tankard, one sorrel horse colt, and two hundred pounds current money, & to receive the whole of his estate when he comes to the age of eighteen years. ... Item. I give & bequeath to my son William JOHNSON his heirs and assigns forever one hundred acres of land, being my part of of that parcel of land purchased in equal partnership between myself and a certain Francis DEAKIN, with one Negro Girl named CATE with her increase, one Negro Child called SAM, & three hundred pounds current money, he is to receive and take possession of his whole estate when he arrives at the age of eighteen years. ... Item. I give and bequeath to my son Richard JOHNSON, the sum of three hundred pounds current money, to be put to interest immediately after my decease by my executors, and to be paid to him by them, with the interest arising therefrom when he shall come to the age of eighteen years together with a Negro girl called PEGG with her increase and a Negro boy called HARRY to be delivered to him when he comes to the age of eighteen years, as aforesaid. ... Lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my well beloved son John Johnson & my trusty friend Edward THOMAS whole executors of this my last will and testament, under whose care I committ my sons Thomas JOHNSON, William JOHNSON & Richard JOHNSON to be raised provided for & educated in reasonable decent manner. But if it should so happen that my sons Thomas JOHNSON or William JOHNSON or both of them should decease before they come to the age of twenty one years, then in such case their or either lands lands to fall to my son Richard JOHNSON, they leaving no lawful heir. in witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal, this seventh day of August 1778.
