The Rev. Cornish entered all data on baptism and marriage whether black or white. My search was in a particular area (Jenkins, LaRoche, Grimball) to whom he was related by marriage. I only copied the parts of the diary that were necessary for my research. It may be helpful if you have someone in NC at Chapel Hill for them to go through the diary. Most of his information would be for the Edisto Island and Aiken area. One entry that I do have is: Sept. 23, 1873 Gabrella & Folorella born January 1872 parents Jonas and Maud colored baptized. I would also suggest that you check with St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, Aiken, SC, as that is where he served and that information should also be in their records. I was able to go through the parish registers that start in 1840 but it took some arranging as far as when it was convenient for them to have me come. You may also want to go to the SC Archives and ask for the Losses Due to the Enemy papers. Again you must be persistent but they do have some of them - not all survived. These were claims the citizens of the low country made against the confederate govt. to be paid for their losses. The index for this is also at the S.C. Historical Society, Charleston #34/309 Losses Due to the Enemy, S.C. Claims 1861 - 1862. I noticed when I went through it that some of the plantation owners listed slaves by name and age and craft. Not all but some and really worth looking at. The index is more complete as to who filed but I cannot remember which had the most information or if it was the same.
