MAYO KY 1825 {Manumission} Hi, While reading the book "The Annals of Floyd County, Kentucky 1800-1826" by Charles C. Wells, I found a record that may be of interest to someone. The following excerpt comes from Deed Book B dated 26 September, 1825: "Be it known to all whom it may concern and unto all whom these presents shall or may come, that I, William James Mayo, of Floyd County and State of Kentucky for divers good causes and considerations, me hereunto moving as an ardent desire of striving to do unto all men as I would they should do unto me, have this day liberated, manumit and emancipated and by these presents do liberate, manumit and emancipate the following slaves now in my possession, to-wit; Nancy, born on the 15th day of December, 1799, and her son, Pompey, born on the 17th day of March, 1819, and also her daughter, Caroline, born on the 19th day of January, 1822. All which slaves I wish and desire to assume and take unto themselves the surname of "ISBELL". In testimony of all and singular the premises I, the said William James Mayo, have here unto subscribed my own proper hand and have affixed my seal this 26th day of September, in the year of our Lord, 1825, in the 34th year of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the 49th year of the North American Independence". I hope that this will be of help to someone. Darrell Stanley Contributed by: darre72007@accnorwalk.com (Darrell Stanley)
