Haskell, Cato, MA, 1802 In the book "The History of Ipswich, Essex and Hamilton" (Massachusetts) by Joseph B. Felt, Cambridge, printed by Charles Folsom 1834: 1802: Nov. Cato Haskell is sentenced for manslaughter, to be branded on the forehead with M, and imprisoned for a year. He belonged to this town, and had killed Charles Lewis, from Virginia, Oct. 12th with a scythe. They were both colored men.
