Estate of Elizabeth HARVEY, FL, 1852 Hello, I saw your article in the AOL Genealogy Forum Newsletter asking for information to be shared on former slaves and their owners. I have copies of the estate papers of my 4th great grandmother Elizabeth Harvey. I've extracted what I believe will be of interest to your group about the slaves named in those wills & papers, but if you should require actual copies of them I will be happy to send them to you, either by e-mail or s-mail. The Wills are fairly brief & pretty straight forward, but the estate papers are rather long and involved - lots of letters, petitions to the court, etc., since Rebecca & her mother both died intestate and there were a lot of heirs involved in the settlement of the estates. I tried to extract every item dealing with the slaves and included those in this listing, plus the source information. I hope this will help someone out there find some of their ancestors. Given under my hand this 15th day of February, 1853 Sears Bryan, Autioneer ============================================ NOTE: I do not know what relationship that Hugh Spears had to the Davis & Harvey families, if any, at this time. I do not find him listed on census records as a resident of the Marianna area of Jackson County, Florida at that time - however I found an Isabella Spears listed onthe 1860 Jackson Co., FL census so this may be his widow - I don't know because I've done no research on him. Elijah Padget was the husband of Susan(nah) Davis who was a sister of John Davis, the Administrator of the estates of both Elizabeth Harvey and her daughter, Rebecca. He, Elijah Padgett & family were residents of Jackson Co., FL, listed on the 1850 FL census on page 306 in the 4th District, the 1860 census, no page # and 1870 census of Washington Co., FL, Vernon Post Office, no page #.
