Green's Will, VA, 1846 Green, William B. "In the name of God amen, I, William B. Green of the County of Hanover ... I wish all my just debts to be paid and for that purpose, ... I wish such articles of personal property other than slaves as may be necessary to that end and as my wife can best spare to be sold, but I do not wish any slaves sold if the effects of paying any debts can be affected without. ... If the payment of my debts cannot be affected without the sale of slaves, then I wish such of the following slaves sold for that purpose as my wife can best spare and as may be necessary to pay what remains unpaid after the sale of the personal property other than slaves as aforesaid, to wit Sam, Fleming, Taylor, Joe, Martha and two of her children named WIlliam and James. ... Fourthly .At the death of my wife I will and bequeath to my four youngest children, Mary Wesley, William Corbin, Fanny Burwell and John Lewis, the following slaves, namely - Miles , Pharoah, Spotswood, Diley, Lucy Ann, Adeline, Frances, Charlotte and her child Emuella and their increase.. ... second day of May in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty-six....
