GARDNER, Amite Co, MS, ca 1865 This is from the memoirs of one of my xg.grandmothers. No, the memoirs are not documented, but perhaps they can help narrow someone's search. The area for all is Amite County, MS, close to the town of Liberty. From an account of Chlorinda Weathersby Gardner (widow of Elisha Gardner). Apparently, these individuals chose to stay with Chlorinda throughout the course of the war. Names included: GEORGE, a carriage driver who "was especially faithful to the family." BLUETTE EDNEY, a cook who "stuck to the family through every hardship." SALLIE JAMES, who "nursed all the children, and when necessary served as a wet nurse to them." Sally lived to be 85, and "always visited Chlorinda as long as she (Chlorinda) lived." (I believe "James" was Sallie's last name, as she is always referred to with both.) The memoir goes on to state that all these folks left the farm at the close of the war, but doesn't say where they went.
