Carter to Ewing-VA-1820 Re: Will of William Houston Deed Book 4, Page 54 Lee County, Virginia This indenture made Nov 29, 1820 between Charles Carter of Lee County, State of Virginia of the one part and Samuel Ewing the same, for and in consideration of the several sums received by him by the said Samuel Ewing of the legacies in the Last Will and Testament of William Houston deceased to the children of Sally Carter late wife of said Charles Carter to the estate of William Houston amounting to between $1200 and $2000 which sum the said Legatees the receipt where of the said Charles Carter doth hereby acknowledge hath granted, bargained, sold and conveyed unto the said Samuel Ewing, his heirs and assigns forever the tract of land whereon the said Charles Carter now resides, Containing 500 acres with all it's appurtenances, also eight slaves to wit: ... SARAH and her three children, BETSY, PEGGY and FANNY. ... HANNAH and her three children, JAMES, THOMAS, and GEDFREY also all his household, kitchen furniture and property of every discription whatsoever which the said Charles Carter hath any right or titles claim or interest therein.
