Ellington-VA-1802-Will Nottoway County, Virginia Will Book 1, p. 372 Will of Peter Ellington In the name of God amen. I Peter Ellington of the county of Nottoway being weak in Body yet of sound and perfect understanding and memory do constitute this my last will and testament and desire it to herewith by all such as to worldy Estate after my just debts are paid. ... Item I give to my loving wife for term of life all the negroes I now possess, and their increase, to wit, Sam, Lucy, Rachel, Lewis, Pheby, Hal, Mycager & Nancey with all my stock of horses, cattle & hogs, also my household & kitchen furniture & my desire is that the said negroes, stock and furnature after the death of my wife ... be equally divided between my ten children to wit, Mary, William, John, Elizabeth, Jincey, Peter, Richard, Newman, Francis, Thacher & Thomas ... but if my wife should hereinafter find it necessary to dispose of one or two of the said negroes for the better support of herself & children my desire is that the same be done at her and my son Williams discretion and do constitute her and him executrix and executor of this my last will and Testament. ... Newman & is ordered to be recorded and on the oaths of the said executors a certificate is granted for obtaining probate thereof they having taken the oath of executors and with Pleasant Roberts and John F.
