Eakins-1870 Census
In the 1870 census, I also found these following families that had the
Eakins surname. I don't know if they were former slaves of the Eakins
family or what. The families are somewhat sketchy, and I did try to
connect them to the 1860 lists, but didn't have much luch. Here they are:

Generation No. 1
1. NAT1 EAKINS was born 1872 in KY. He married MATTIE SIMMONS, daughter of
JOHN SIMMONS and ABALINE SIMMONS. She was born May 15, 1879 in KY, and died
September 12, 1947 in Henderson Co., KY, bur at Springdale in Sebree.
Notes for NAT EAKINS:
In the 1920 Henderson Co., KY, census, Nat is listed as #177 and living in
district 6. With Nat is his wife, Mattie--a mulatto--and their son,
Locket--a mulatto, age 21

i. LOCKET2 EAKINS, b. 1899.
ii. MARGARET EAKINS, b. November 13, 1909, KY; d. December 22, 1927,
Henderson Co., KY, bur at McMullein Cem..

Child of NED EAKINS is:
i. HENRY2 EAKINS, b. May 16, 1844, KY; d. June 06, 1934, Henderson Co., KY,
bur at St. Johns Cem.; m. LEATHY (LETHIA); b. 1850, KY.
Notes for HENRY EAKINS:
Henry Eakins and Leathy Eakins were in the household as a farm worker and
servant for Joseph William Eakins (son of John Eakins and Sarah King
Eakins).
In the 1920 Henderson Co census, Henry is listed as 75, b. in KY, and Lethia
is listed as 60, b. in KY.
The death information comes from the Henderson Co. death records on the
internet. Rosie Bounds is the informant. Who is Rosie?

Generation No. 1
1. MARY1 was born 1848 in KY. She married MARTIN EAKINS. He was born 1849 in
MO?.
Notes for MARTIN EAKINS:
The 1870 Henderson Co census shows that Martin and Mary and their 3 children
were living by themselves. I am not for sure what the MO means in the 1870
census--is it Missouri or does it mean Mulatto?
Children of MARY and MARTIN EAKINS are:
i. LUCY2 EAKINS, b. 1865.
ii. NORA EAKINS, b. 1868.
iii. GEORGE W. EAKINS, b. 1870, KY.

2. GEORGE W.2 EAKINS (MARY1) was born 1870 in KY. He married MOLLIE. She was
born 1872 in KY.
Notes for GEORGE W. EAKINS:
George was living on Schuette Rd in the 1920 census, #72 on the record.
Along with George was Mollie and their 4 children.
Children of GEORGE EAKINS and MOLLIE are:
i. ROBERT M.3 EAKINS, b. 1903.
ii. DEWEY M. EAKINS, b. 1906.
iii. FEARN M. EAKINS, b. 1909.
iv. HELENE EAKINS, b. 1914.

in KY.
Notes for GEORGE HANLY:
In the 1870 Henderson Co., KY, census, George is listed as living with his
wife, Tabitha, and their child, Piety. I don't know if Piety was born in VA
or if her name was Piety V. Hanly.
Child of GEORGE HANLY and TABITHA is:
i. PIETY2 HANLY, b. 1870.
Descendants of Martin Eakins
Generation No. 1
1. MARTIN1 EAKINS was born 1890 in KY. He married VIOLA. She was born 1892
in KY.
Notes for MARTIN EAKINS:
The 1920 Henderson Co., KY, census list Martin as Martin Akins and in the
7th district (#324 in the census record).
Children of MARTIN EAKINS and VIOLA are:
i. IDA V.2 EAKINS, b. 1917.
ii. ROSETTA EAKINS, b. 1918.
iii. MARTIN W. EAKINS, b. 1919.
