Estate papers of Rebecca (Harvey) (1) Davis (2) DeVaughn, FL, 1852 Hello, I saw your article in the AOL Genealogy Forum Newsletter asking for information to be shared on former slaves and their owners. I have copies of the estate papers of my 3rd great grandmother, Rebecca (Harvey) Davis DeVaughn. I've extracted what I believe will be of interest to your group about the slaves named in those wills & papers, but if you should require actual copies of them I will be happy to send them to you, either by e-mail or s-mail. The Wills are fairly brief & pretty straight forward, but the estate papers are rather long and involved - lots of letters, petitions to the court, etc., since Rebecca & her mother both died intestate and there were a lot of heirs involved in the settlement of the estates. I tried to extract every item dealing with the slaves and included those in this listing, plus the source information. I hope this will help someone out there find some of their ancestors.
