Davenport, GA, 1822, Will Per request of Valencia King Nelson, the following information on slaves. This info comes from the Will of Frances Davenport. Specific excerpts as follows: Will of Frances Davenport, Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Recorded 6 Mar 1822 "1st, My desire is that Mealy, Riley, Julyann, Sarahann, and Martha to be equally divided between five of my grandchildren, to wit: Richard Rosbery's son John, Jesse Hewell's son John, Jouett Davenport's daughter Mary Frances, Jesse Davenport's daughter Mary Frances, and John Poss' daughter Frances, which several children's part I wish given of when they become of age or marry" "My wish is that the above named negroes shall be hired out until the children become of age." (*note: This Will also indicates that son, Jesse Davenport was not living in the State at the time this will was written and he would receive the tract of land Frances lived on provided he moved "to this state". One could also surmise from this that one of these slaves could have gone "out of state" to honor the bequest to Jesse's daughter Mary Frances.) Both of these Wills are recorded in Clarke County, Georgia as well as Oglethorpe Co. James & Frances Davenport moved to Oglethorpe Co., GA in 1791 after they sold their property in Hanover County, Virginia. It is presently not known if Amelia & Carr traveled from VA to GA with them. Currently, it is assumed that those slaves mentioned in Frances Davenport's Will were born and/or from GA and were "acquired" after the Davenport's moved to GA. It also is not known if any or all of these slaves were children of Amelia. I hope this is of help to someone. If I can be of further assistance, let me know. Contributed by: Earth2WIRT
