THE WILL OF NENIAN COWAN
(Rowan County, NC - April 22, 1844)

It is also my Will & Desire that my beloved wife Carolina have a sufficiency of all my household & kitchen furniture & the surplus if any to be sold.  I also Desire that all my other personal property of whatsoever kind be sold, except the Negroes which is to remain with my wife for her and my children's use except as hereafter named, Viz. That my Executor shall have the discretion of selling or hiring my Negro boy Desty as he may think best.
