THE WILL OF SAMUEL COWAN

Written 6 April 1801

I first bequeath to my wife Rachel ...the Negroes also to remain on the place during their good behavior, I also bequeath to my wife Rachel the Negro Girl Easter - during her natural life...I also intend the Negro boy Cyrus to remain on the plantation until the oldest child comes of age and them to be sold at public sale and the price to be equally divided amongst all the children and likewise the increase of the Girl Easter to be divided amongst the Girls.
