Elijah Combs, Sr., KY, 1855 - Will I found this will listed in "Perry County Kentucky A History" written and published by Hazard, Ky Chapter of DAR, compiled by Eunice Tolbert Johnson, copyright 1953 "I Elijah Sr. of Perry County and State of Kentucky being weak in body but of sound mind and disposing memory do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form following: That is to say that I give to my son Jesse COMBS, my negro man, Lewis. Also the land in the following boundary lying and being in Perry County." ... (There follows a minute description of a large boundary of land.) "I desire that my son Jesse COMBS shall have the use of the above mentioned land and negro man Lewis during his natural life. But they shall not be sold to pay his debts and shall be used only for the use of his family and at his, my son Jesse's death, I give the above mentioned negro and all the above mentioned land to my three grandsons to wit: Josiah H. COMBS, Jesse COMBS, and John COMBS to be equally divided amongst them. I also give to my son Jesse COMBS two cows, one horse and ten head of common sized hogs, also two feather beds. I give to my son Jackson G. COMBS, two negro women, Nancy and Mary. Also, all the balance of my property on my farm. Also, all the balance of my house furniture, beds, etc., also all the land I hold in the following boundary." ... (Here follows another description of land). "I heretofore have given to the balance of my children their part of my estate all that I intended to give them, ... and lastly I do hereby constitute my grandson Josiah H. COMBS executor of this, my last will and testament hereby revoking all other or former wills and testaments by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and hereunto affixed my seal this 17th day of August in the year 1855.
