John Clifford, Howard County, MD

The following regards my great-great-great-grandfather, Alfred Clifford. It is a statement from him, dated 8 December 1897. He was living at 932 N. (W?) Eutaw Street in Baltimore, MD and said he was 53 years old. (Alfred Clifford is listed on the 1870 Census Records* for Howard County, MD as a mulatto. He is also listed on the 1900 Census Records for Baltimore, MD and was living on Eutaw Street.)

This document is located at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., in the pension file for John T. Clifford, a Civil War Veteran, who died during the war.

Alfred Clifford states:

"I am a cousin of John T. Clifford. I knew his parents Jane and Charles Clifford. We were all slaves of John T. W. Dorsey and all raised together on his place in Howard County, MD."

Also in this file there was info on the parents & siblings of John T. Clifford.

Re his parents:
Charles Clifford died in 1876.
Jane Clifford died in 1888.

John was described as 5 ft. 8 ½ inches, eyes and hair black, mulatto complexion.

Alfred Clifford married Marcella (my great-great-great-grandparents)
Their daughter, Rose Ella Clifford, married George Crawford
Their daughter, Rose Ella Crawford, married Solomon Howard (my great-grandparents)
Their son, Frank Howard married Edith Holman (my grandparents)
