CLARK, NC-SC, Court Case, 1755 This court case is found in the Clerk's office of Amelia County, VA. Spelling has been kept as written. At a court of Oyer and Terminer held for the Trial of Tom, a nigra man belonging to John CLARK for murder. County of Amelia the 25 Day of Feby. 1755 Present: Charles IRBY, Samuel TERRY, Wm. FINNEY, Thos. TABB, Edwd. BOOKER COLONIAL JUSTICE At a court being Examd. saith that he saw the prisioner at Bar have a knife in his hand and that he stob Wm CLARK of which he died in a few minutes and that the said prisoner Tom endeavoured to stabb him this Witness and also did stabb Thomas CLARK of which he bled much but did not die. And it appearing by the Coroner's Enquy taken upon the Body of the said Wm. CLARK that he died of a Stabb in his neck given by the said Tom the prisoner at the Bar upon which the court are of Opinion that he is Guilty of the Charge and That he shall suffer Death. Ordered that the Sheriff take him from hence to the prison and from thence to the Place of Ext'n (execution) there to be hanged by the neck till he is Dead. Then his head is to be severed from his Body and that he be Quartered and that his Quarters be disposed of in the following Manner. His head to be sit up at the Cross road near Maj. P. JONES, one arm at (could not read) one leg at FARLEY'S and the rest any other public place. And the Court Value the said Tom at fifty pounds Current Money.
