Received of John F. Crawley seventeen hundred dollars for the Negro slaves named Sally about 19 years of age, Lloyd being age 3 years and infant child unnamed. The Right and title of said slaves I warrant and defend against The claims of all persons whomsoever and also warrant them sound at this date and slaves for life.

Rebecca's note: Mt. Elba was in Cleveland County. Crawley lived in Ashley County, AR. During WBTS, Crawley took his slaves to TX. Perhaps Crockett, TX. His freed slaves stayed in TX after the war except for two who later followed him to Sweetwater, TN. At one time this man owned 156 slaves [including children, etc.
