Jasper John Alford was born in Mer Rouge to John W. and Clarissa Davenport Alford. His mother and paternal ancestors were large slaveholders in the Morehouse Parish area. He was the first cousin of Tutt Alford. Annette Sevall arrived in Mer Rouge, Morehouse Parish, Louisiana after 1870 and before 1880. She came with her father, John Sevall, and her siblings, Wade, Rufus, John, Olive, and Ann, from Georgia.  Nett & Jap lived as man and wife until his death.
