Re: HAWKINS and MORRISON and MOORE and SCOTT

What I would do myself would be to start looking in every county in GA 1900, starting with Fulton Co. for Morrisons and Hawkins, and make note of all I found, then I would start hitting the family forum message boards hunting for any info anyone had on ANY Will Hawkins and ANY Minnie Morrison...then if I had access to ancestry.com's paid data base, I would check all the Hawkins and Morrisons listed in the 1896 Index to Dawes rolls...these list everyone who applied for citizenship...if you don't have a subscription, perhaps you have a friend who does and would look for you...I do not suscribe myself, so have to rely on friends who do in order to check those data bases...
Then if you get any responses on a Minnie or a Will, make note of where they were located, and any connected family if those are given...Then you can start asking if anyone knows of any Hawkins or Morrisons who were Cherokee or other Indian...See, a lot of times when you are hunting, you will find what seem to be related families, but they will be Choctaw or Creek or some other Tribe...don't let that make you think they aren't related to your family becasue they aren't being listed as Cherokee...many families who were mixedblood Indian from the 1700s were mixed with various other Tribes and then married into the Cherokees or Chickasaws or whatever..You could have 2 brothers who were mixed Powhatan where one married a Cherokee and the other married a Choctaw...see what I mean?
I hope this is enough to give you an idea of how I would search...it has paid off enormously as I know I have ancestral relatives among most of the Tribes, not just the 5 main ones...and they all tie back into the earlier family from when they were of the earlier Tribes, some of which, by the way, are considered "vanished"...the people didn't vanish, they just married into other Tribes...so the blood is still there from those earlier Tribes...
I will tell you there are Scotts among the Choctaw, and so there is very likely a family connection for you there...You can do this with any of your family lines...I started out determined to only stick to my direct lines, but it was when I started noting the allied lines that I found more on my direct lines...it got me farther back in time...
B.
