Re: Cherokee Freedmen Citizenship Issues

But if you have Cherokee blood, you ARE part of the nation whether you are recognised by officials who want to limit official membership to suit themselves or not...You don't have to care about Indian culture, but please don't equate Indian culture with this garbage that goes on and has been going on since whites took over our Tribes...And it's more true to say that most of the Indian tribes are mixed with white AND Black...it's just the same old false racism garbage of lighter skins claiming no kin to their darker skinned relatives...I almost quit in my efforts to gain enrollment with the Choctaw tribe until I figured out it wasn't the People that didn't want me..it was the officials and the BIA that controls who the officials are....but I figure I will continue to fight for my birthrights as a Choctaw citizen, and my hope is that more people who are blood Choctaw will fight too, and then maybe one day we will be able to do something to break this awful hold the white govt has had over our people for so long, those who are enrolled as well as those who have been barred from enrollment...
