Anyone Have Access to Marshall County Deed Records
In Response To: Reference Book~Who Was Who Among The Southern Indi ()
I've been going through this book looking at the significant owners that held my ancestors in bondage. Throughout the book there are references to the Deed Books in several counties in MS i.e. Marshall Monroe DeSoto Pontotoc Chickasaw and others. Some of the surnames I have as slave owners are COLBERT LOVE McGILLVRAY PICKENS BYNUM BRUNER PITCHLYN HARRISON JAMES THOMPSON & McLISH among others (seems most of my ancestors had contacts with the Chickasaw's and Choctaw's). I would like to know who on the list is working with the MS records has access to them would be willing to extract that information? It has been brought to my attention there is some material being published on the deed records but from my first glance the dates seem to be late for some of what I am looking for (sales and purchases of slaves prior to 1830). Now I will say this anything I can get during this period could be useful but from some of the dates on Dawes Freedmen cards if I want to know the parents of some of the elder enrollees who were deceased at the time of enrollment I may need to research records prior to 1830/40 when the Chickasaw & Choctaws were in the process of being removed. Any and all insights gladly welcomed!!! Estelusti [11 Jul 1999] Messages In This Thread
