Re: Chickasaw Freedmen Search
In Response To: Re: Chickasaw Freedmen Search ()

The only information that I have on the slaves owned by the Love and Colbert families come from a few websites. There is quite a bit of information about Elizabeth "Betsey" Love Allen at:
http://www.flash.net/~kma/
This site also has what I think is her will and it lists which slaves she deeded to each of her children as well an itemized list of her estate at the time of death including her slaves. This does not really help me because I am descended from her youngest child Mourning Tree Allen who was born in 1833 after the will was already written.
I also found information at:
http://members.aol.com/slavedata/Public/MS-PontontocCo-1828.htm
These are the church records for a mission church in Mississippi before relocation to Oklahoma. The Allens Loves and Colberts are listed in these records. Sometimes the church officials listed members as the wrong race (Henry Love and Elizabeth's daughter were listed as white).
If I find anything new I'll keep you updated!

Shelby
