Re: Cherokee Freedmen Citizenship Issues
In Response To: Cherokee Freedmen Citizenship Issues ()
If the Cherokee Nation can accept white people who are 0% Cherokee blood and not accept black people with 1/2% cherokee blood then why do black indians want to be a part of that nation? It is a fact that over half of native americans are mixed (mostly with whites). I am half cherokee; not 2/32 not 1/8; but 1/2! Let's face it Native Americans are just as prejudice towards blacks (no matter if you have indian blood or not) as any other race. A Lumbee Indian when I told him that I saw myself as black and I would not recognize my indian heritage told me that some tribes act that way was because they are trying to get tribal recognition and (in the case of the Lumbee Indians) if your tribe is heavily mixed that as well as other things play a significant part in if you get tribal recognition. I just do not care about indian culture! [9 Sep 1999] Messages In This Thread |
