Re: Norris & Glover Family Search\Cherokee & Choct
In Response To: Norris & Glover Family Search\Cherokee & Choctaw I ()
I'm researching the Norris surname in Wilcox-Dallas-Perry-Marengo counties in Alabama from the 1830s on.
The Glover surname is very common in this area. There were Glover slaveowners, Glover former slaves and mulatto Glovers (possibly Indian). There's still a Black "Glover Community" and church near Consul in Marengo County.
There is also a Shields-Glover connection with old William B. Shields fathering many mulatto children who intermarried with white and mulatto (Indian?) Glovers. Shields took many of his manumitted children with him to Texas then to Matamoras, Mexico and back to Texas in the years before the CW but he and they continued to hold land in Alabama and some later returned.
Let's see where we can go with this.
